What's New, Cupcake?

Who doesn't love a great cupcake? In recent years, the cupcake trend has taken off like crazy, and we are no exception to that rule! Cupcakes are becoming more and more popular substitutes for your traditional cake and other desserts, but even more so, decorative cupcakes are popping up even more. When it comes to parties and weddings, decorative desserts are truly a fun and increasingly popular element to the event, and skilled bakers and pastry chefs are in high demand for their imaginative ways of making a food item look like a piece of art.
But what if you could impress and make your own cupcake masterpieces? That is what authors Karen Tack and Alan Richardson have focused on in their two New York Times best selling books, Hello, Cupcake! and more recently, What's New, Cupcake? In these books, Karen and Alan have taken the art of whimsical cupcake design and broken it down to simple steps using popular every-day candies and baking supplies. Want to know how to make life-like broccoli out of candy? Just cut a slit half-way down a mini green tootsie-roll, dot the ends with frosting, and then dip in green sprinkles! Or create beautiful res roses with ease by simply using red fruit leather candy, garnished with some green fondant and icing. In their books, it's all about being creative but keeping it simple for wonderfully detailed cupcake creations. So take a look at some of the cucpake designs from their newest book, What's New, Cupcake?, and the next time you're planning a party, shower, or just want to treat yourself to a fun home-made dessert, take a look at Karen and Alan's books!
